OPEN SOURCE INTELLIGENCE (OSINT)
Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) data refers to material that can be obtained legally from public, or ‘open’, sources. There are a variety of avenues from which this information can be obtained including print and social media platforms, public government data, commercial data, and publications and papers released to the public, but not easily accessible.
This data is utilized in a variety of situations. Primarily it can assist in creating a link between parties in complex relationships such as corporate interactions, trust account ownership (both domestic and offshore), establishing connections through website/IP addresses/domain ownership and personal interactions. Inquisitive Intel utilizes leading software and technology to gather this information.
OSINT searches produce a vast amount of information that can be difficult to navigate. Our strength lies in identifying relevant content and reliable sources, establishing continuity of data and presenting concise and accurate results to our clients.
Evidence that is reliable, accurate and supported is integral to the successful outcome of any court case. From a prosecutorial standpoint, the link between a defendant/respondent and a set of facts may be missing, weakening the evidence at hand. Conversely, defence counsel may wish to establish that a client has no association with a particular entity.
Our team of digital and financial forensic experts works alongside our OSINT specialists to provide litigation support. We provide data that will assist in challenging witness testimony, create links between parties in corporate or family law situations, and support civil and personal injury cases. We also collect data to assist with mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations and can obtain information necessary to support injunction relief and court orders.
The collection of data through digital forensics in an important component of Inquisitive Intel’s services. Our team has the technology to examine a wide range of devices including cellphones, tablets and computer hard drives.
This allows our team to commence a three-stage process:
- Examine the device and retrieve deleted SMS and files; capture an image of the device’s RAM; extract registry information.
- Analyze the data that has been retrieved.
- Create a report, detailing the continuity of the information retrieved.
The data obtained through digital forensics is extremely valuable in supporting or refuting a claim before the courts. Meta data can attribute actions to a particular user as well as provide information about a person’s intent. Equally important, is the application of the data obtained to support corporate investigations pertaining to hacking, fraud or money-laundering.
Financial forensics combines auditing and investigating skills to research and evaluate evidential material. It is most commonly used to detect fraud or money laundering, calculate economic damages, or provide a business valuation, with applications in family, corporate, civil and criminal law.
Inquisitive Intel’s team of accounting professionals can investigate and analyze financial documents to assist with a myriad of complex situations. In family law situations, we provide reports that analyze a party’s lifestyle and income to assist with litigation involving division of assets and support payments. From a criminal law perspective, we assist with tax and securities fraud investigations, assessing earnouts in mergers and acquisitions, proceeds of crime and money laundering investigations and calculating economic damages due to breach of contract.
